Glad to hear that the Swiss government approved "heroin assisted treatment" to long-term severely addicted heroin addicts! This is harm reduction at its best and does not in any way encourage drug use. It rather provides a highly effective means of controlling and maintaining heroin use among heavily dependant addicts. This is a brilliant solution to a chronic and ugly brain disease suffered by a small segment of the world's population. It only makes me sad to think that certain other countries have not put into effect such a program or even experimented with trials of legally prescribed heroin to addicts in tightly controlled settings. Instead, countries like the United States choose to mock the program with limited knowledge of its intentions, and the positive changes it has brought to swiss society. This is, at worst, a great way to reduce crime and the spread of HIV, among countless other negative lifestyle impacts brought on by intravenous drug use - especially a drug as physically addictive as heroin!
